Improving Coalition Communication

Summary

Impact Statement:
Knox County Health Dept. demonstrates how use of partner developed communication standards can improve communication satisfaction among groups participating in a coalition.
Summary:

While working with a four-agency We Choose Health (WCH) Coalition, Knox County Health Department (KCHD) in Illinois identified the need to increase each agency's satisfaction with communication. As the lead agency, KCHD ran a Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycle focused on communication between the lead agency and the subgrantees. Throughout the PDSA cycle, the quality improvement (QI) team consulted with the four subgrantees to create an effective intervention. After implementing communication standards contained within a Coalition Charter, a post-intervention survey showed that subgrantees were happier with the communication they received from the lead agency. Six metrics of successful communication were used for this PDSA cycle:

  1. Comfort with reaching out to KCHD when you have questions or need technical assistance
  2. Accessibility to KCHD staff for your organization
  3. Timeliness of communication to your organization from KCHD
  4. Quality of information given by KCHD
  5. Value of the communication shared by KCHD with your organization
  6. Overall satisfaction with the communication from KCHD to your organization
