Routine Food Inspection Report Completeness

Based on the results of the cause-and-effect diagram, some themes were seen as potential root causes. To help lead to consistency and group collaboration, the EH Section brainstormed and created an affinity diagram to look at potential improvement methods. Based on the affinity diagram results and previous discussions, the group voted and elected to create an Inspection Standardization Form. This form served as a tool to use in the field. The form gave EH Section staff an identified list of what should be written on the inspection form and how it should be written. The form supplied EH Section staff with concise guidelines for standard inspection documentation. The group created the document, which addressed the issue of not enough group collaboration. The supervisors also reviewed many inspections together to ensure consistency in assessment. Having a form that easily depicts what is required on the inspection would hopefully lead to less pressure and would take less time than having to think of each individual field that needed to be filled out. The impact of the initiative leads to better consistency and uniformity and provides the food service establishments with an inspection report of higher quality than what was previously being given to them.

The previously determined baseline was 42% based on the checklist created to audit inspections. From April 13, 2013, to May 13, 2013, the EH Practitioners used the Inspection Standardization Form during their inspections. After the implementation period, all inspections were audited using the checklist. Individual graphs were created throughout the entire PDCA process to determine whether only discussions on the project would lead to improvements. A graph was also created during the implementation period. Each month throughout the process, a bar chart was created, showing individual results (confidential to the EH Practitioners) and a cumulative result. All routine inspections from April 13 to May 13 were reviewed to determine whether the goal of 80% was reached.
