Employee Events Committee

Hello Fellow QI Friends,

Our department is working on establishing a formal Employee Event Committee that will be made up of all divisions in our department. We are interested in seeing what other departments are doing around this area. We would like to develop policies/procedures and leadership positions for this committee in order to have a successful committee to take on coordinating events for employees. When I say events I mean holiday events, craft fairs, and just fun events that boost employee moral. Would any of you be willing to share your committee/program processes? We would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you,
Christina

We are a small health department with 17 employees. We have an event committee that consists of three employees and one manager. We are moving away from the manager having an active role. One of the employees is the chair. We have established guidelines for things like when to send flowers (hospitalization or death in family), what work anniversaries to recognize, etc. The committee plans birthday celebrations, baby showers, themed pot luck lunches, ice breakers at staff meetings, etc. They have a small budget with which to work with. I would be willing to share the guidelines we developed. You can send me an email at tracy@elvphd.org

Christina,

Establishing this type of committee is an excellent idea. Tulsa Health Department has approximately 320 employees at multiple locations. We have an Employee Relations Committee (ERC) that oversees many events which focus on employee interactions, fun and interactive events, contests, and fundraising for our Christmas and retirement parties. In addition, this team coordinates the employee recognition program including Employee of the Month and program Kudos. This committee has a chair and vice-chair and members from different programs/locations with various tenure. The Chair and Vice Chair also split their time sitting on other THD committees such as the Innovations Team, Wellness Committee, and the QI Council as a representative for the employee base. Please feel free to contact me at jalmond@tulsa-health.org and I will connect you with the committee Chair.
