Vaccine Inventory Management Rapid Improvement Event

Summary

Impact Statement:
Using Kaizen Rapid Improvement Event, Denver Public Health not only made the vaccine administrative process more efficient, but helped to ensure the appropriate vaccine and fund source was applied, thereby preserving scarce privately funded vaccines.
Summary:

A Rapid Improvement Event (RIE) was conducted from February 25 to 27, 2013, to address vaccine inventory management, which was identified as having room for improvement because of the great amount of time spent on inventory management, as well as the high documentation error rate. The collaborative work of a diverse RIE team created various solutions to these issues. Standard work and streamlined processes were created for managing and administering many different types of vaccine to the Denver Public Health (DPH) Immunization Program’s diverse patient population.

This is a nice summary of a huge project that the Immunization Program continues to benefit from (disclaimer...I was a part of the improvement team :)). Thanks for taking the time to share this project on PHQIX.

This QI initiative was a great resource to provide JIT for our personnel who wanted to conduct a QI project for immunization inventory management.
